Christmas Break 2014

This Christmas saw Elanor doing a hop-a-long galloping gait for a run, saying something akin to dank do for thank you, and going crazy climbing and jumping off of things, including stairs, couches, chairs, and mattresses. Her vocabulary has shot up into the several hundreds range, and it's never a surprise if she says cheddar cheese or Lindsay home, or Daddy run...two word sentences are all the rage. And now she just wore Cassandra's socks, making her look like a satyr as she prances around.

Claire matured a little in understanding herself. She started asking for quiet time. I love cuddling with her, and showing her affection when she's been bad, because I feel like she's genuinely sorry underneath it all and that she's just too embarrassed to admit it. So, I get to feel needed, and my still-little big girl can be held for a little while longer. I also think the affection helps her reach the point where she can say sorry sooner, and correct her behavior sooner. Man, being 4 is way more difficult emotionally than being 18 months.

As far as amazingly cute things that she continues to say, I think I could run into the thousands of words recording them all, but I've especially loved, several months ago, her questioning me hard on how Cassandra and I didn't know each other when we were kids. She just couldn't wrap her head around that one. And then today, she wanted to know how humans could grow into mermaids. It was a question I sadly had no good answer for, but I explained how we could imagine we were mermaids. I hope my little fish is satisfied with that answer.
